I had the opportunity to visit Tarawa for the 65th anniversary of the battle. Several tour members and myself, were able to walk the beaches and see the battle relics. In addition, we were able to attend a special ceremony to honor the brave 2nd Marine Division. Unfortunately, Tarawa has changed quite a bit. However, the spirit was still there.
